Monologue & Dialogue: Meet the Artists
“natura naturata”, a chanting heralds the earlier arrival of full spring in Berlin.
After the philosopher and musician David Rothenberg’s concert and lecture on his music making with birds, bugs and whales, we will bring back the visual artists in the group exhibition to speak of their thoughts, from which the works were thus made.
How did Antonio Catelani discover his Prussian blue that can breathe on canvas along with time, air and sunlight? How was Ulrike Mohr mesmerized by charcoal, this light, fragile and yet timelessly stable material? Where did the cloud come from and go to for Waszem Khan in his 16mm film? What was it like in Werner Klotz’s tranquil moment in the mountain valley? What a touchstone that Dodi Reifenberg’s plastic works could be, to challenge one’s limits to define art or non-art? What is inside the sealed box by Gong Zhang and who will free the undefined longing from it? How does Xinglang Guo’s luminous fishing lines become free flowing ray, and for once, tangible?
The artists at present are:
Gong Zhang (China), Ulrike Mohr (Germany), Antonio Catelani (Italy), Waszem Khan (U.K.), Werner Klotz (Germany / USA), Dodi Reifenberg (Israel / Germany) and Xinglang Guo (China)
